The minutes of the July 14, 2011 Annual Meeting were read and accepted. Treasurer’s Report: Howy Tepper presented the Treasurer’s report: Total funds: $20,054.77; Checking Account Balance: $10,400.57; Capital Campaign Account: $1,496.08; Savings Account CD: $8,158.12 Firehouse Update: Howy Tepper reported that the interior walls have been primed and painted. The Trustees and Officers will be deciding on a sign. Chris is getting an estimate on carpeting the floor. It was so noisy in the Firehouse during our Annual Meeting, that we realized carpeting would help to reduce the noise. Alburgh History Volume I Reprinting: Jennifer Theoret had no information to report. Turning Points in American History: The Alburgh Historical Society has been chosen to participate in this federally-funded professional development program and will be presenting a ‘seminar’ on the Missile Base. Lorraine Mumley, Sue Lynch, Barbara Rothstein, Jen Theoret and Chris Tepper are working with the program administrator to present a half-day program to Vermont educators. This will be held in the Town Clerk’s conference room. We are using lots of information from the Missile Base portion of our Society collection, which includes past research and photographs, and research into Village Trustees’ meeting minutes. The seminar will include a Power Point presentation, a model of the missile base, lots of handouts, an exercise of a mock town meeting, poetry, and a very flexible lesson plan for participants to take home and tailor to their particular grade levels. Festival of the Islands: Our Society participated in this Island-wide event on the Friday of this special weekend. We had a work crew in the building finishing up the painting, while Festival folks stopped by to see our Firehouse. Membership Dues Revisited; Chris decided it was time to look at the amount of dues required to become a Society member. Peg Theoret and John Goodrich will research our surrounding historical societies to see how we compare. John did express his concern that raising our present levels might prevent some from joining, and that our current levels are adequate. Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership: Chris Tepper announced that she is serving on the Grand Isle Stakeholders Group for this Partnership and will report to the Society as needed. Other Business: Greg Epler Wood, our new Auditor, announced that he has audited our financial records for the past twelve months and all is in order. He also made suggestions to the Treasurer regarding future audits. With the business portion of the meeting complete, Ray Bohannon of the Alburgh Springs Community Hall Restoration Committee proudly showed all present the Hall in all its glory. We toured inside and out and saw many of the wonderful artifacts that the committee has found ‘upstairs’. They have lots of work ahead, but are so enthusiastic about this project. We all look forward to the day when it is complete and can be enjoyed by the residents of Alburgh. The business meeting adjourned at 7:45. Respectfully, Christine Tepper, Co-president
